As shown in the figure, let the boat travel at an angle 30° with flow direction with speed v = 10 m/s.
Time to cross river of 40 m width = 40/(10×sin30) = 40/5 = 8 s.
drift in west-east direction from starting point = (v cos30 - 4)×8 = [ 10 (√3/2) - 4 ]×8 = 37.28 m
