Expert Answer:
Oxidation is a process f in which an element losses one oe more electrons.
Reducction is a process in which an element gains one or more electrons.
both processes go on simultaneously in a chemical reaction.
Zn(s) + CuSO4(aq) -------------> ZnSO4 (aq) + Cu (s)
here Zn -------> Zn2+ +2e-
2 electrons are lost by zinc atom which then combines with sulphate ion. Cu2+ + 2e- ----------> Cu
copper ion gains two electrons and becomes neutral.
