Let us take x-axis along the side AB and y-axis along the side AD of the square ABCD.

Assume that the force 3P is acting along the negative direction of x-axis and the force 4P is acting along the negative direction of y-axis.


Hence effectively a force 2P acts along the negative direction of x-axis and an equal force 2P acts along the negative direction of y-axis.

The resultant of these two equal forces will be,
