Every individual receives its gentic material from its parents. In sexual mode of reproduction, an offspring receives 50% of genetic material from his father and remaining 50% from his mother. Offspring produced are not the exact copies of the parents and minor differences called variations arise between the offspring and parent. Variations in offspring are due to genetic variations. Maximum variations occur during sexual reproduction. This is because of the recombination of genetic material of two different individuals due to the event of crossing over during meiosis. There are more chances for variations to occur.
