Expert Answer:
To find out valency you have to write atomic number and then electronic configuration ,after that
1)if no of outer most shell electrons are upto 4,then valency is equal to no of outer most electron.
2)if no of outer most shell electrons are greater than 4,then valency is equal to 8 - no of outer most electron.
