There are two types of root systems:
Tap root system: The primary root gives rise to a thick, central root called the taproot. It gives rise to several sub-braches also called lateral roots forming secondary roots.
Fibrous root system: Some plants do not have a main root. A cluster of roots originates from the base of the stem. The roots are equal in thickness and have a bushy appearance. This is known as a fibrous root system.
