Hello,
 
we need to find out the highest common factor between 8 and 6.
 
HCF(8,6) = 2
Hence the largest possible size of a square tile that can be fitted will be 2 ft or 24 inches.
(because 1 ft = 12 inches)
Number of tiles required = (Total Area)/(Area of one tile)
                                   = 48/4 = 12
Hence 12 tiles would be required.
