Expert Answer:

(A) X has greater mass than Y
Track of particle shows that at given instant displacement of X in the direction of electric field and
also in the direction perpendicular to electric field are less than that of Y.
In the direction of electric field, accelerations acting on the particles are independent of projection speed.
Displacement in the direction of electric field  = (1/2)×a×t= (1/2) ×(qE/m) × t
where a is acceleration that equals qE/m . Here q is charge, E is electric field intensity and m is mass.

Since displacement is directly proportional to charge and inversely proportional to mass,
either particle Y has greater charge than X or mass of  X  is greater than Y
In the direction perpendicular to electric field, accelerations of particles are independent of charge.
In this direction also, displacement of Y is greater.
This indicates again mass of X is greater than y so that X is not able to move faster.
