Three cube of iron whose edges are 6cm , 8cm , 10 cm respectively are melted and formed into a single cube..find the edges of new cube formed ?    Ans- 12 cm

volume V1 of cube whose edge is 6 cm = 6×6×6 = 216 cm3
volume V2 of cube whose edge is 8 cm = 8×8×8 = 512 cm3
volume V3 of cube whose edge is 10 cm = 10×10×10 = 1000 cm3
 
Total volume = V1 + V2 +V3 = 216+512+1000 = 1728 cm3
 
if a single cube of edge a is formed from the toal volume, then we have,   a3 = 1728 cm3
 
to get side a, we need to get the cuberoot of 1728
 
1728 = 4×432 = 4×4×108 = 4×4×4×27 = 43 × 33 = (4×3)3 = 123
 
hence side of single cube = 12 cm
