There is a leak in the bottom of the tank. This leak can empty a full tank in 8 hr. When the tank is full, a tap is opened into the tank which intakes water at rate of 6 L per hour and the tank is now emptied in 12 hr. What is the capacity of the tank?

Part of the tank emptied by the leak in 1 hr = 1/8
Let part of the tank filled by the tap in 1 hr = x
Part of the tank emptied by the leak and tap together = 1/12
According to the question,
Let part of the tank filled by the tap in 1 hr = x
Part of the tank emptied by the leak and tap together = 1/12
According to the question,

Part of the tank filled by the tap in 1 hr = 

Pipe can be filled by the tap in 24 hrs
Capacity of the tank 24 × 6 = 144 litre
