the sum of squares of two no's is 117. the square of smaller no. is four times the square of the bigger no. Find the no's.

Expert Answer:
let the numbers be x and y and x
ATQ,
x2+y2=117...(i)
and
x2=4y..(ii)
substituting from (ii) into (i) we get,
y2+4y=117
y2+4y-117=0
(y-9)(y+13)=0
y=9, y=-13
y=9,so x=6
y=-13 can't be accepted as eqn (ii) doesn't get satisfied with it.
So the numbers are
x=6, y=9
