Let x cm be the equal sides of an isosceles triangle.
According to the question,
base of an isosceles triangle is 2/3(x + x) = 2/3 × 2x = 4x/3
x + x + 4x/3 = 42
2x + 4x/3 = 42
10x/3 = 42
x = 12.6
Hence, sides of an isosceles triangle are 12.6 cm, 12.6 cm and 16.8 cm.
Now you can find the area of isosceles triangle using Heron's formula.
