A circular current carrying loop of wire creates a magnetic field around it.
This field can be detected by placing a magnetic compass near the vicinity of the loop.
The rule that helps to predict the direction of the magnetic field is the right-hand thumb rule.
According to this law, "Imagine that you are holding a current-carrying straight conductor in your right hand such that the thumb points towards the direction of current. Then, your fingers will wrap around the conductor in the direction of the field lines of the magnetic field". For circular loop this law can be modified as, "Imagine that curled fingers wrap around the conductor in the direction of the current, then the thumb will point in the direction of the magnetic field".
