New methods of defense and destruction were used in it. It was the first industrialised war and is known for the advanced weapons that were used in the war. In the First World War, It was the first widespread conflict to see the use of machine guns, high explosive artillery, poison gas, and tanks. Because of the extent of the spread of the war, damages caused by it and the total impact of the war was till now unprecedented in history, it came to be known as the First World War.
