'The electrostatic force on a small sphere of charge 0.4 ?C due to another small sphere of charge ? 0.8 ?C in air is 0.2 N. (a) What is the distance between the two spheres? (b) What is the force on the second sphere due to the first?' in this question why are we taking '-0.8*10^-6C' as '+0.8*10^-6C'. Pls. explain. (question no. 2, NCERT textbook, page no:46)

Expert Answer:
This is because we need only the magnitude of the charges to know the distance between them. The unlike charges simply indicate that the force between the two charges will be attractive.
