Dear Student,
The reaction between MnO2 and HCl is an example of redox reaction.
MnO2 + 4HCl → MnCl2 + 2H2O + Cl2
Manganeses doxide reacts with hydrogen chloride to form manganese dichloride, water and chlorine gas.
In this reaction,
The oxidation state of Mn in reactant MnO2 is +4 and in the product MnCl2 the oxidation state of Mn is +2.
So, Mn is undergoing reduction.
While, chlorine from -1 oxidation state in reactant HCl get oxidised to zero oxidation state in product Cl2 gas.
Thus, both oxidation and reduction both takes place in the same reaction. Hence it is an example of redox reaction.
