Candle wax is made up of hydrocarbons.Forces existing between the hydrocarbon molecule is dispersion forces. Chalk is made up of calcium carbonate.Calcium carbonate is an ionic compound. Forces existing between them are electrostatic forces .These electrostaic forces are much stronger the dispersion forces.Hence lattice enthalpy for chalk is more than that for candle.
