G is the gibb's free energy which is the maximum possible work done by the system.

If G = Positive ,the system is non-spontaneous.

If G = Negative , the system is spontaneous.

If G= Zero, the system is in equilibrium.

In Your example , there is equilibrium between ice and water ,it means the rate of conversion of ice into water is equal to the rate of conversion of water into ice.
