Expert Answer
1) The solar energy reaches the earth's surface in a diffused form. It has been estimated that the solar energy received in the upper atmosphere is 1.4 kW/m2. Thus, it is too small for doing useful work.
2) It is not available uniformly all the time and at all the places of the earth. It is more in the Equatorial Regions than in the Polar Regions.
