The functions of the Parliament are:
- Legislative functions: Parliament is the ultimate authority which makes laws for the country. It makes new laws, change existing laws, or abolish existing laws and make new ones in their place.
- Financial functions: All the money that the government has is controlled by the Parliament and can be used only when it is sanctioned by the Parliament.
- Informational organ: It the highest medium where discussions and debates takes place on public issues and national policy in any country. Thus, it is considered as the most powerful organ as far as information about the functioning of the government is concerned.
- Judicial functions: It has a special right to impeach the President and remove the judges of the Supreme Court and High courts. It also has a right to punish a person for contempt or defamation of the house.
