qn.39 :- when the lens is squeezed more, its focal length increases. As we increase the focal length image moves towards lens.

qn.40:- If image moves towards lens, when object-to-lens distance u is fixed constant,
magnification decreases because magnification is v/u , where v is image-to-lens distance

qn.41 :- let us place the object at F of one side of lens, then image will be otherside at infinity.
Let us move the object so that it is located between F and 2F now. Image wil be at other side beyond 2F
If we place the object at 2F, image at other side also 2F. When the object is moved beyond 2F, image at other side is between F and 2F.

Hence we conclude if object moves away from lens on one side, image moves towards lens on otherside.
In the given question turnip is moved away from the lens, hence image at otherside will move towards lens.
Inorder to keep the image on screen, while turnip is moving away from lens, we need to increase the focal length.
To increase the focal length, we need to decrease the squeeze
