Ideally, changing the definition of success shouldn't change your answer and you should be able to get the right result. So, in this case if you are getting the right result, then great. 
 
However, one word of caution -- it is not considered ideal to change the definition of successes in the middle of one question. Usually the examiner doesn't has that much time to go through each and every step that you have done and is checking answers really fast, so if you are changing definitions in the middle of question, he/she might not like that or might even miss that and deduct your marks if you answer is wrong (by chance). So, yeah, try to keep consistency across the question, that is what we would suggest.
