A solar cooker is a device which uses sunlight as its energy source. There are a variety of types of solar cookers. Some device, usually a mirror or some type of reflective metal, is used to concentrate light and heat from the sun into a small cooking area, making the energy more concentrated.
Cotton or nonconducting materials are used in some types of solar cookers so as to separate compartments where solar energy is concentrated and not lost. In other words, they are used because they are insulting, preventing the heat loss.
