Speed gives us an idea of how slow or fast a body is moving; but velocity gives us the of the direction of motion of body as well.
For eg, if the speed of a car is 10 km/hr, this means that the car travels a distance of 10 km every 1 hr.
It the velocity of a car is 10 km/hr towards north, this means the car travels a distance of 10 km every 1 hr in the north direction.
