Consider the lift going downward at constant speed, and of course it's direction is not changing, implies a constant velocity. Constant velocity means zero acceleration.
Now F = ma, where F is the net/unbalanced force. Since a =0, F = 0. So this means that unbalanced force is zero.
So all the forces acting on lift are balanced.
