The distance will be the arc length and displacement will be straight line distance between the initial and final positions.
The angle subtended by the hr hand while it moves between 6 am to 3 pm is 270 degree.
Hence the distance is, (2πr)x270/360 = 3πr/2 units.
While displacement = (r2 + r2)1/2 = r2 units, since the hr hand with it's two positions forms an isoceles right angled triangle, whose hypotenuse represents the straight line distance between the intitial and final positions of the hour hand and hence the displacement.
