should we use logarithms while solving the numericals regarding refractive index and other numericals in ths lsn?

Its entirely upto you if you want to solve the question using log tables or not, they merely help in simplifying mathematics. they dont change the physics.
Eq to find x = 3^23
take log of both sides
thus log x = 23 log 3  (using properties of log i.e. log a^b = b log a)
find log 3
then take antilog on both sides to find the value of x
