Ozone has positive as well as negative effects.

Good ozone is present in the upper strata of the stratosphere. Ozone absorbs the harmful UV rays of the Sun. The exposure of humans and animals to UV rays can cause many skin diseases and skin cancer. Therefore, this ozone is known as good ozone.

Bad ozone is present in the troposphere or at ground level. This gas does not exist naturally but is formed when hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxide react with each other in the presence of sunlight. It contaminates the air and result in the formation of smog or haze. Thus it is known as bad ozone.
