A metre scale can measure accurately upto 1 mm or 0.1 cm which is the least count of the metre scale.
To increase the accuracy of any measuring instrument, its least count has to be increased ( in case of metre scale, it cannot be done, then devices like vernier callipers or screw gauge have to be used).
