root x + y = 7 and x + root y = 11. Find x and y?

Expert Answer
Here the sum of and y is 7. So, x has to be a positive number as square root of negative no. is not permissible.
Similarly, y has to be a positive number as square root of negative no. is not permissible.
Also, x and y have to be perfect squares as the sums in question are natural no. ( 7 & 11 )
The perfect squares less than or equal to 11 are 1, 4, 9.
By Hit and Trial method,
let x = 9 , y = 4
Hence the solution is x = 9 , y = 4
