ROLE OF ATMOSPHERE IN CLIMATIC CONTROL
Asked by fathima12 | 30th Dec, 2009, 12:40: AM
Air is a bad conductor of heat, hence the atmosphere keeps the average temperature of Earth fairly steady during the day. The temperature is also kept fairly steady throughout the year. The atmosphere prevents the sudden increase in temperatures during daytime. During night time, it slows the escape of heat into outer space and thus prevents drastic cooling. And during the night, it slows down the escape of heat into outer space. Movement of air i.e. winds also help in cooling down of temeperatures during hot days.
