Expert Answer:

Area = basexheight/2

40 = basexheight/2

basexheight = 80

Perimeter = base+height+hypotenuse

base+height+hypotenuse = 40

Square on both sides,

(base+height)2+ 2basexheightxhypotenuse + hypotenuse2 = 1600

base2+2basexheight+height2+2basexheightxhypotenuse + hypotenuse2 = 1600

2hypotenuse2 + 2basexheight +2basexheightxhypotenuse = 1600 ...........(base2+height2 =hypotenuse2)

2hypotenuse2 + 2x80 +2x80xhypotenuse = 1600

2hypotenuse2 + 160xhypotenuse -1440 = 0

hypotenuse2 + 80xhypotenuse  - 720 = 0

hypotenuse = [-80±(6400+2880)]/2 = [-80±96.33]/2 = 8.17 units.

The length of hypotenuse is, 8.17 units.
