Respiratory pigment helps to increase the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood.
In case of vertebrates, including humans, haemoglobin is the respiratory pigment. It is present in RBC and gives red color to blood. Haemoglobin transports oxygen to the tissues.
Haemocyanin, haemerythrin and chlorocruorin are the other respiratory pigments found in invertebrates.
