JJ thomson determined the charge /mass ratio for the electrons.A/c to this 1.Greater the magnitude of the negative charge on the particle the ,greater will be the interaction with the electric or magnetic field applied ,and thus greater will be the magnitude of the deflection. so by measuring the deflection we can measure the charge.2.Smaller the mass of the particle ,more will be the magnitude of defelection.3. Greater the strength of the applied electric and magnetic field ,more will be the deflection which particle will undergo.
