REDOX REACTIONS
Asked by raghavendran7 | 13 May, 2010, 07:55: PM
There is no reaction in which only oxidation or reduction reaction is taking place.
These reactions will not be complete reactions as oxidation and reduction does not take place in isolation. They take place simultaneously and is called a redox reaction.
Example: Fe + Cu2+ Fe2+ + Cu
In this redox reaction, oxidation half reaction and reduction half reactions are taking place.
Oxidation half reaction: Fe Fe2+ + 2e-
Reduction half reaction: Cu2+ + 2e- Cu
