Expert Answer
Bacterial recombination is a type of genetic recombination in bacteria characterized by DNA transfer from one organism called donor to another organism the recipient. This process occurs through three different methods:
- Transformation: Uptake of naked DNA molecule from the remains of one bacterium (donor cell) by another bacterium (recipient cell).
- Transduction: Bacterial genes are carried from a donor cell to a recipient cell by a bacteriophage.
- Conjugation: DNA from a donor cell is transferred to a recipient cell through a conjugation tube (pili).
