Hi Jay,
Your question can be solved in the following way:
1. Find the equation of the line passing through the points (1,2) and (-2,1) by using the following formula:
y - y1 = (y2 -y1)/(x2 - x1)[x - x1]
2. Find the point of intersection of the given line with the line found out in the previous step.
3. Find the ratio in which the point found above divides the line by using the section formula.
