CBSE Class 10 Answered
Dear Student,
Let Ram has x coins of value Rs. 5 each
And y coins of value 25 paise each
i.e. y coins of value Rs. 0.25 each ………………… {Note that 25 paise = Rs 0.25}
According to the statement, total number of coins = 140
So, x + y = 140 ……………..(i)
Also, total value of coins = Rs. 225
Which means 5 × (number of Rs. 5 coins) + 0.25 × (number of 25 paise coins) = 225
So, 5x + 0.25y = 225 ……………..(ii)
Substituting the value of y from equation (i) into equation (ii), we get
5x + 0.25(140 – x) = 225
5x + 0.25 × 140 – 0.25x = 225
5x – 0.25x + 35 = 225
4.75x = 190
Substituting this value of x in (i), we get
40 + y = 140
y = 140 – 40
So, y = 100
Hence, Number of Rs. 5 coins = 40
and Number of 25 paise coins = 100
