Advantages that the Indian weavers had in India during the colonial period:

  • Indian weavers knew the art of producing cloth with intricate borders and traditional woven patterns. This could not be produced by British mills. There was a great demand of clothes with intricate designs among the middle and upper class in India.
  • The Indian weavers also produced a coarse variety of cloth which was cheap. It was used by poor people in India. There was a regular demand of this coarse variety of cloth.
