Let α and β are the roots of the given quadratic equation.
x2 – ax + b
Comparing with Ax2 + BX + C
A = 1, B = -a and C = b
Sum of the roots = α + β = -B/A = a
Product of the roots = αβ = C/A = b
According to the question,
α - β = 1
(α - β)2 = (α + β)2 - 4αβ
1 = a2 - 4b
