Ques on Triangles.......

Expert Answer:

Coordinates of B(0,0).

Coordinats of C, (x,0), since C lies on the x-axis, as the side BC lies on the positive side of x axis,

Coordinates of A(X,Y).

Using distance formula,

BC = ((x-0)2 + (0-0)2) = a

BC = x = a

AB2 = x2 + y2 = a2          ............distance formula

and AC2 = (x-a)2 + y2 = a2           .............distance formula

But AB = AC            ... equilateral triangle,

AB2 = AC2

x2 + y2 = (x-a)2 + y2

x2 + y2 = x2 - 2xa + a2 + y2

- 2xa + a2= 0

x = a/2

and using

x2 + y2 = a2

y = 3a/2

Hence, the coordiantes are A(a/2, 3a/2), B(0,0), C(a,0).
