It is given that .4 is a root of the quadratic equation x2+px-4=0 .
So we have: (0.4)2+0.4p-4=0
Now x2+pk+k =0 has equal roots. It implies it's discriminant is 0.
k=p2 /4=(9.62 )/4=23.04
