Expert Answer
The trace of an n-by-n square matrix A is defined to be the sum of the elements on the main diagonal (the diagonal from the upper left to the lower right) of A.
So, tr(0) = trace of zero matrix = 0
Since, all the elments of a zero matrix are equal to 0.
tr(I) = 1+1+1+...+1 (n times) = n
Since, the identity matrix of order n is the n × n square matrix with ones on the main diagonal and zeros elsewhere.
