Law	Why is it Necessary?	Whose interest does the law not protect?
Minimum Wages Act specifies that wages should not be below a specified amount.	Many workers are denied fair wages by thier employers. Because they badly need work, workers have no bargaining power and are paid low wages.	This law is meant to protect the interests of all workers, particularly from labourers, construction workers, factory workers, domestic workers, etc.
Law specifying that there be adequate safety measures in workplace, for example, alarm system, emergency, exits, properly functioning machinery	Safety measures are not properly followed at many workplaces.	This law is supposed to protect the interest of all the workers.
Law requiring that the quality of goods meet certain prescribed standards, for example electrical appliances have to meet safety standards	Consumers might be put to risk by the poor quality of products, such as electrical appliances, food, medicines.	It serves the purpose of helping the general public.
Law requiring that the prices of essential goods are not high. For example, sugar, kerosene, food grains.	Many traders increase the price of the products and when they feel like. This makes it all the more difficult for the poor to buy their basic necessities.	The interests of the poor who will otherwise be unable to afford these goods.
Law requiring that factories do not pollute air or water.	Pollution free environment is a must. This will help in reducing pollution to a greater extent.	The interests of the publilc in general.
Law against child labour in workplace.	Child Labour is an offense as per the Indian Constitution. This puts a ban on the working of children below the age of 14 in hazardous places.	This law is supposed to protect the health interest of all the children. It then focusses on educating them.
Law to form workers unions/associations.	By orginising themselves into unions, workers can use their combined power to demand fair wages and better working conditions.	The interests of the workers.
