Prove that the moment of a couple does not depend upon the point about which moments are taken.

Expert Answer
Let us consider a couple acting on a rigid body at points A and B with position vectors with respect to origin O respectively.
and are the forces acting on points A and B respectively.
The moment of couple = moment of force at A +moment of force at B
But (using triangle law)
Therefore, eq. (1) becomes: moment of couple=
It is clear from the above equation that moment of couple is independent of origin, that is the point about which we have take the moment of forces.
