Pradesh gave away 8 sweets to his friend.this number was one fifth of the number of sweets that he had with him at first how many sweets did Pradesh have with him at first?

Assume the total no. of sweets with Pradesh be 'x'initially.
He gave away 8 sweets to his friends,means he has left with (x-8) no. of sweets with him.
 
Guess the next step?
 
Yes, (x-8) = 1 fifth x
Multiply both sides by 5. The equation simplifies to,
5x - 40 = x
4x= 40
x = 10.
 
Initially, he had 10 sweets with him.
