Expert Answer:

Dear Student

Say the sol are m,b

m^2-5m+k=0 --(1)

b^2-5b+k=0---(2)

(1)-(2)===>  m^2-b^2 -5(m-b)=0

(m+b)(m-b)-5(m-b)=0

Substitute m-b=1-----(3)===>  m+b-5=0==>  m+b=5----(4)

add3,4

2m=6 ==>  m=3

put m in eqn 1==>  k=6
