Flowers develop one or more of the following means to ensure cross pollination:

i) Unisexuality

ii) Dichogamy, either protandry or protogyny

iii) Heterostyly

iv) Self-sterility

 

Chasmogamous flowers often prefer cross pollination.

 Examples of angiosperms that produce seed without fertilisation - Several species of Citrus Euphorbia dulcis, Mangifera indica, Solanum nigram, Orchis maculate, Nicotiana tabacum
