Etiolation is the act of causing a plant to develop without chlorophyll by growing it without exposure to sunlight. So it is a state of plants that have been grown in the dark: they are not green and have little or no chlorophyll.

Etiolation is characterized by long, weak stems; smaller, sparser leaves due to longer internodes; and a pale yellow color.
