Expert Answer
if the disc blocks the point source of light, then light rays incident at the edge of idsc and
thereafter experience total internal reflection.
At maximum height of liquid, when the point source is not visible when viewed from above of disk,
angl of incidence of light from point source at the edge is critcal angle.
Critical angle C is given by, 1/SinC = n , where n is refractive index of liquid
SinC = 1/n = 3/5 = 0.6 , hence critical angle C = sin-1(0.6) ≈ 37°
If h is height of liquid, then we have , tan 37 = 1/h or h = 1/tan37 = 1.333 cm
